We are in the middle of a very unfortunate pandemic, an era we all would never want to see again in our unpredictable future. Life was always unpredictable but now it has even become unimaginable.
For those who don’t know, I had successfully cleared my licensing exam in India and have been doing my internship at a hospital since 7 months now. Currently I’m posted in community medicine where we basically work at the primary health care centres and reach out to the rural population.
There’s this thing called FIELD VISITS, where we visit the people at their homes and maintain a record of their health conditions. So during these visits I happened to come across a lot of people who keep asking a question, “Does Corona virus actually exist?”
Now, that’s not a very intelligent question according to me. Why should a person even assume that the entire world is creating this false perception of a disease? If you haven’t been diagnosed with it, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist!
There are people who proudly keep boasting that they’ve been in contact with a COVID positive person but didn’t get it. And many people claim that this is a new method doctors have discovered to loot the patients. Another section of people also believe that this is a political propaganda.
My only answer to such people would be that the day your loved ones disappear from this world you’ll realise why people around the world are panicking. It’s easy to create your own logic but when things get personal, the brain chooses common sense.
We humans have this unfortunate trait that we’ve inherited, the habit of pointing fingers and being naive to logical and sensible reasoning.
It’s always difficult to discover the blessings one has, but that doesn’t mean you stop noticing them! If you’ve not been diagnosed with a disease, rejoice and appreciate your fate. But don’t use your fortune to judge the others.
We have coined this new term, “COVID WARRIORS” and there are millions of people using these hashtags daily, but I doubt how many of such people have actually bothered to find out how these apparent warriors are living their lives.
When a patient visits a doctor he always presumes that the doctor will write a lot of unnecessary medications and investigations to make money. These days people believe that the doctors will unnecessarily just diagnose any patient as having COVID 19. That’s where I would like to ask such people, “Will you still be nice to the doctor if he/she fails to diagnose a severe illness of yours? If an investigation comes out to be normal, it doesn’t mean the doctor was bluffing, it simply means that a part of your body is functioning normally. We call it a negative finding, which is as important as the positive findings one has. Doctors still exist because Google cannot diagnose and treat a patient. Sometimes it’s more logical to trust a human being than a software made by one.
Working in a health system isn’t all about making money, it comes with a responsibility! The responsibility of a person’s life. It comes with a sacrifice of personal and family time. So the least one can do in return is to be humble and grateful for the sacrifices and sincere efforts.
So to sum it all up, let’s use this pandemic as an opportunity to be reasonable individuals. The only way this tough phase can end is by equal participation from all of us!
Unless each one of us understands and decides to abide by the protocols, the future will never look bright!
This pandemic is like an exam we all are appearing for. So lets answer these questions together and not complain that the question is wrong and out of syllabus!
So until then be the light in somebody’s life. The least you can do to help someone is be a positive influence! A battle can only be won if you believe.
Stay home stay safe!
